HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE
D-Hayao Miyazaki
P-Toshio Suzuki
S-Reiko Yoshida
C-Chieko Biasho, Takuya Kimura, Akihiro Miwa, Tatsuya Gashuin
In the land of Ingary, where magic is commonplace, the Witch of the Waste was another matter. When a moving black castle appears on the horizon, everyone thinks it is the Witch. The castle, however, belongs to Wizard Howl, who likes to suck the souls of young girls. The Hatter sisters--Sophie, Lettie, and Martha--and all the other girls are warned not to venture into the streets alone. But that was only the beginning. In this giant jigsaw puzzle of a fantasy, people and things are never quite what they seem. A smash hit in its native Japan, the animated adventure is the latest from Hayao Miyazaki, director of "SPIRITED AWAY," 2002's Academy Award-winner for Best Animated Feature.
This is easily one of my favorite all-time children's books (I'm actually currently reading it to my class. I heard it had been released in Japan some time ago and was hoping that since the director was the one who did "Spirited Away" that eventually it would be released here. And here it is!!! I am so excited! It's based on a book by Diana Wynne Jones - one of my all-time favorite children's authors. She's a fabulous writer - and a genuinely nice person. My students have written to her several times over the years and she has always sent back fascinating letters where she answers each child's questions. So nice of her!
Anyway, can't wait till June now! Yippee!!
