Okay, so, yeah...
Feb. 5th, 2005 01:14 amSo, when my friend told me that going to the theatre awards this year would be worth my while "if you know what I mean", he meant what I thought he meant.
So, you're now reading the LJ of the winner of the 2005 New Hampshire Theatre Award for Best Actress for my portrayal of Miss Abby in Arsenic and Old Lace. (Now you'll have to make sure you watch *that* one, Suz!) :-)
The award is a lovely clear, thick, heavy plastic/glass material. It stands about 10 inches high and is a model of the State of New Hampshire. The theatre awards logo is embossed on it and my name and what I won for are on a little bronze plaque at the bottom. Really very lovely. :)
I don't know what I said when I went up on stage to accept the award. My heart was pounding like crazy when they started reading off the five finalists. My name was first because they went in alphabetical order. My heart pounded even harder then it felt harder to breathe. And then they called my name and I felt completely peaceful and calm and not a bit nervous. I walked up on stage and people stood up and yelled and hooted and hollered. I took the award and walked to the mike and said something or other and walked off stage and back to my seat ( with lots of hugs in between), but it's like I was somewhere else.
I know I waved on my way to the mike when people were yelling my name and the Bedford people said I mentioned Bedford Off Broadway (that's the group I did the play with) so they were psyched and I thanked the generic "everyone" and said I'd worked with so many of them and they were all wonderful and said I needed to thank my family who put up with all of my craziness and came to all my shows even if I was only on-stage for 5 minutes.... But I'm not sure how I said it or if I said anything else. It was (and continues to be) a very surreal moment.
It was wonderful. Really wonderful. I hope it's a sign of good things to come this year. (I could use it after last year's craziness!)
Thank you all for your support and good wishes. I couldn't wait to get home to tell you all! :) *Hugs and smooches*
