Crazy Maria Stories

maisfeekaAs most of you know, I'm a teacher. Most of my kids are well below grade level and highly resistant to trying something new. Writing in particular is a very painful thing for them. I always try very hard to get my kids interested in writing and one of the most effective things I've found is to let them write crazy stories about me. They love it when creative writing involves a "Crazy Maria" story.
Last week I was wearing an octagonal pendant and was going to ask if any of them had ever watched Smallville with the octagonal "key" for the spaceship. Somehow we got on a Stargate discussion. Turns out most of my kids watch both SG-1 and SGA and love it. Thus we ended up with a bunch of "Crazy Maria" and the Stargate stories. thefannishwaldo that I'd post them, so here they are.
Keep in mind, I only have 6 students at the moment (and only 5 got their stories finished). 3 read and write at a less than mid-second grade level (2 at a *barely* second grade level), one about a 4th grade level and one at a 5th. This is their first foray into creative writing with me for all but one of them. They had about 40 minutes to write.

It was the day Maria got eaten by Dr. Rodney McKay. (I admit, my mind went to a *very* bad place) She is the most horrible and ugliest thing in the entire universe. "She does not have any alibi. You, You, You ugly!">>
>>Maria was on a fishing trip. When she caught a big carp she saw a big flash of green. She started walking toward it. All of a sudden she was in a weird place and she saw some weird men with snakes in their bellies. She started to walk around.
A guy spotted her. She started to run. Suddenly she noticed she was in a pyramid. She heard a staff weapon fire. Then she heard a machine gun fire. Also she had Replicators, so she started to run. She ran into someone. They started to take a worm out and put it in her. She pulled it out and she kicked their butts.>>
>>One day Maria found a transdimensional gopher hole. She jumped in and landed in the middle of Atlantis. She blew up the shield. So then the Wraith came from everywhere. They were taking Atlanteans like we take apples off a tree. They were sucking them alot. But then they all got transported to different planets and the whole world (of Atlantis) blew up.
The heroes thought Crazy Maria was evil. But she was just crazy. But Superman came and used his superstrength, but she threw Kryptonite. Then the Flash came. She tripped him. Then Batman came. She took his belt.
But then she went back to Earth. She won a google dollars. (We'd just discussed what a google was - no, not the search engine...) She bought a Hummer H2000 and a mansion and a limo. But then she ate a 1000 foot long hot dog and got really really sick and blew up into a balloon and popped.>>

One day Crazy Maria was walking down the street. Then she saw Dr. Rodney Mckay. Then Dr. Rodney McKay asked Crazy Maria if she would go on a mission with him in Stargate SG-1. (I figure I must have either looked incredibly smart or lost 100 pounds and dyed my hair blonde!) Crazy Maria yelled, "Yes!" in excitement. They they went off to Stargate SG-1. So they went through the portal and finished the mission.
At the end of the mission Dr. Rodney McKay asked Crazy Maria to marry him. Crazy Maria said "No" and slapped him. >>
And in the non SG category...
>>Crazy Maria has snakes for earrings. She eats little kids for lunch, dinner, and breakfast. She eats evil. She's the most evil now.
It was a year ago. She died. She didn't go to heaven. She went somewhere else and then when she got there the devil said the wrong thing, which was "Get to work!"
Then Maria said, "Don't you talk to me like that!" But he did. So Maria took out a five hundred yard long ruler and spanked the devil five hundred times and he cried mercy. So after that he was a slave and Maria started to feel like a queen.

This week? Crazy Maria meets the Aztec and the Maya. Yes, we're combining social studies with creative writing and a Crazy Maria story. They were hysterical!
