She dusted some make-up across the bridge of her nose to cover up some freckles, then returned to the bedroom where the scene on the screen had shifter from the Middle East to Cincinnati's River Down Racetrack.

"The annual Weiner Dog races are the most popular summer event in the city," the local anchorwoman breathlessly informed viewers as a frenzied pack of more than a hundred dachshunds madly raced for the finish line. If she'd seen the frenzied dash last night, Laurel would've feared she'd been suffering an alcohol induced hallucination.

Which is pretty much what I was wondering when I read this last night - except well, I'm allergic to alcohol, so the hallucination would have been even more concerning. Weinerdogs? What *have* you been up to?

It's actually an excerpt from Out of the Storm by JoAnn Ross. A pretty decent book, but unfortunately the above is the only reference to weiner dogs. ;)

Okay, just because I really do *try* to be a nice person and so that people don't think that I'm just a horrible person who goes around randomly bashing characters on shows...

In all fairness...

When I actually sat down and watched my tape of last night's NCIS...

DiNozzo really didn't bother me. He was kind and sweet to Charles Durning's character, thoughtful, pleasant, pleasingly devoid of nastiness, and I felt very bad about saying mean things about him yesterday. If they keep him toned down - and now please understand, I don't mind him being a bit slimey at times or MCP-ish - I may just still be able to watch the show. Though, I still can't say I find him at all attractive, but then, that's just me. ;)

[livejournal.com profile] miladygrey just wrote me a Locke pre-Lost drabble which made me cry.

It is so incredibly beautiful.

She was in a writing mood and offered drabbles and I took her up on it and, my gods! It's just... words fail me.

Happy Birthday to my friend, [livejournal.com profile] atomicpagan!!

May you have an excellent day and the best year yet!

The llamas made you a beautifully artistic card out of the fallen leaves in my backyard. The colors and expressiveness were simply indescribable. However, they destroyed and ate the card in a fit of pique when I told them that I was unable to have the entire yard boxed up and shipped to you Same Day Delivery (or really *any* day delivery).

I assure you that my refusal to do this in no way reflects my feelings about your deserving-ness, but simply the near impossibility (not to mention financial ruin) of trying to box and send my entire backyard. Which actually isn't even mine, but common land of the whole condo association. And while they are feeling generous towards me, due to the whole Big Noisy traumas, I don't think I could get them to agree to this.

Of course, my llamas' sobbing response was to shriek at me that I didn't even *TRY*, and to this I must grudgingly admit. (I did try the whole, "But where would she *PUT* it?" rationalization, but they just threw themselves on the ground and tantrumed. And really they have too many legs - which are very long and surprisingly strong, particularly when a hoof catches you square in the forehead - for me to try and continue on that tack.)

In recognition of my failure in this area (and because I'm still afraid you might force me to read Teal'c/Hammon fic), I do heartily apologize. And hope that you have doubly as good a year, maybe *triple-ly* as good, as was otherwise planned for. :)

*HUGS*
