Dec. 25th, 2004 08:04 pmMerry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all who celebrate it. To everyone else I wish you a Super Saturday! ;)
I've had a busy two days. We picked my youngest sister (#4) up from the airport Friday at 12:30 in Boston - she couldn't get a flight into Manchester, NH sadly. Then home to finish packing and dressing and off to my mom's and sister(#2)'s church to watch my little nieces sing at 4:30 mass. They are 5 and 8 and just the cutest little things. My three-year-old niece can't wait to be old enough to sing too! (For those keeping track, sister #3 and her husband and one-year-old daughter live in San Diego so they couldn't be with us for Christmas.)
Then my mom, dad, youngest sister(#4), and I took the kids back to Mom and Dad's and fed and entertained them while my other sister(#2) sang at her mass at 7PM. We watched "The Year Without a Santa Claus" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". The kids randomly rotated between adults to snuggle throughout the evening. It was very sweet!
My sister(#2) came over, had a few nibbles, and took the kidlets home. Sister #4, Dad, and I settled down to watch "Minority Report" while Mom did last minute Santa stuff. I was so exhausted that I went to bed soon into the movie - oh yes, tradition has it that I sleep over the 'rent's house on Christmas Eve.
Christmas Day we got up fairly early and took breakfast over to sister #2's house to watch the kids open presents. They also put on the cutest little play for us with my mother as Joseph, my oldest niece as Mary and my middle niece as Elizabeth - all with sheets secured around their heads with rubber bands to make them look "authentic" and heavily prompted by my mom as they all developed stage fright. My youngest (3 year old) niece was the angel and just grinned the whole time and only said "Jekkah (Jessica - the 5 year old) is gonna say it all, 'cause I don't want to talk."
Then all of us went back to my parents' house - including sister #2's dog - a stray rescued off the streets of Puerto Rico (loooong story). There we opened the stockings from Santa and all of our gifts. Then dinner, much hyperness, exhausted kids, a video, dessert, and finally the departure of all and sundry. It was lovely, but we are all ready to sleep for a month.
My cat is very glad to have me back, but is currently "punishing" me by sitting practically on my feet and ignoring me. (That way if I move to another room she can follow me there and ignore me where I'm sure to see her.) I am glad to be home and hoping for a quiet slothful day tomorrow - or at least the ability to sleep in!
Hope everyone had a lovely day however they chose (or had no choice but to go along with the family plan!) to celebrate it.
