One other thing...

Today, somehow, (I missed the beginning of the conversation) my students began talking about American Idol. I came in about where they were saying that they were too young to be on it, that everyone in the class was too young to be on it - except me.

At which point the girls began saying "She should go on it! She has the most beautiful voice!" Etc, etc, generally talking among themselves and agreeing as to how this would be a GOOD thing because I am just the best singer *EVER*.

At which point one of my boys jumped in with how he thought maybe I shouldn't go on because Simon would be mean to me - because Simon is mean to everyone - and he didn't want Simon to be mean to me.

At which point my girls got very loud and defensive saying how Simon had better NOT be mean to me or they'd punch him out and get right in his face and show him what was what and such things. The funniest comment was from the girl who said she'd tell him he couldn't be mean to me because I have "cute little feet" and she'd tell Simon he couldn't talk because he has "big stupid feet and so THERE!!!"

I was both heartily amused and massively touched.
