1)Stargate Atlantis: Shep [lisayeager] He's charming and funny on the outside and way deeper than he'd like anyone to know on the inside. He cares immensely about others, but doesn't really know how to show it. And well, see #20 - dangerous, heart of gold.

3)Law and Order:SVU: Elliot Stabler [miladygrey] He has the Ass of Life. No, seriously, see #20, tough guy, heart of gold, dangerous, loving...
4)Veronica Mars
5)Smallville: Lex [guinwhyte] He's that pre-bad Lex and you can see him wanting to be good and yet inexorably sliding to the bad. And he's damn handsome.
6)Star Trek:TOS: Spock [thefannishwaldo] I loved the logic, the tightly controlled emotions and the way they leaked through on occasion. I most liked that sense of him being the alien with both the Vulcans and the Humans, because I felt alien and alone so much of my life.
7)Babylon 5: Garibaldi [carly_sullivan] Yes, I am one of the original Ladies of the Line. And that was my first foray into the internet - using an extra screen name a friend of mine was kind enough to let me use. I started off as Maisfeeka for Garibaldi and remain Maisfeeka still. :) He's gruff, dangerous, but so wonderfully kind and vulnerable underneath. Yeah, yeah, okay see #20.
8)Alias: Jack Bristow [miladygrey] Tough, kick-ass spy, with so much depth that he hides so he won't be hurt - and to try and protect those he loves. (Also see #20)
9)Charmed: Leo [rredhead] He's just such a good guy. And he loves Piper so much. I'd love to find someone who would love me that much.
10)Lost: Locke [miladygrey] Love him. Sexy, kind-hearted, man of mystery...
11)er: John Carter [thefannishwaldo] He's kind, giving, talented, and human. He has flaws - big ones - but he has a good sense of what's important and he has a huge heart.
12)Kung Fu: The Legend Continues: Kermit Griffin [carly_sullivan] He was actually the character that made me realize that so many of my favorite male characters were alike - not so much in looks, as in character. And yes, he is actually billed as the Merc with a heart of gold.
13)X-Files: Skinner [miladygrey] Yeah, yeah, see #20 already. He's tough, but has that soft spot - particularly for Scully - and you know he'd go to the mat for a friend.

17)Harry Potter: Snape [rredhead] I saw him as Alan Rickman from the very first time I read the book - long before they cast the movie. He's just so impossibly... Snape-ish and you know there has to be more there. He's just fabulous. And I do love that much as he hates Harry he consistently puts himseelf out to protect him.
18)West Wing: Josh [thefannishwaldo] Just 'cause. 'Cause he's Josh and he's funny and intense and oblivious and pig-headed and marvelous.
19)Millennium: Peter Watts [besyd] Dangerous, truly believes in what he's doing, incredibly smart and well, of course, really sexy. Sexy really is pretty much a given for all my men here.
20)Stargate SG-1: Jack O'Neill [thefannishwaldo] Smart - way smarter than he wants anyone to know - dangerous, heart of gold. (Yeah, I have a thing for the soldier/agent/mercenary with the heart of gold thing going on.) He lives the way he believes - even when he doesn't like it.

Wow... it was hard coming up with twenty! Anyway... Guess away!

I seriously thought about doing this, but even stretching I couldn't come up with 20, and when I did stretch I found for most of those outlying fandoms I have no real favorite character. o.O Not enough of an Flist to make it worthwhile either, anyway.

Babylon 5 -- Well, based on how we met, I'd say Michael Garibaldi.

Kung Fu: The Legend Continues -- This is actually a tough one, but I'm going to say Kermit.

We haven't really talked about this fandoms, but I'll take a couple of guesses

Charmed -- The obvious choices would be one of the sisters, but given your descriptions of your other favorites, I'm going to guess Cole (in one of his well-behaved phases)

Star Trek:TNG -- Well, you like "stern yet muscular older men" so does that mean Picard?


And I'm with guinwhyte. I doubt I could come up with 20, I'm not sure I could name a "favorite," and my friends list isn't big enough to make a game of it.

Veronica Mars -- Keith, because he's the awesome older guy, and the young cute bad boy who wants to be good is just too smarmy

(which reminds me: when I write my pitch for a VM spin-off where Cliff the Public Defender and Vinny Van Lowe sublet an apartment from Deputy Sachs, will you proofread it for me?)

Charmed: Paige, I think. It was either Paige or Phoebe. I remember being surprised when you told me, so I'm going with Paige.
Unless, of course, it was Leo, and then I'd have to fight you for him. Mmmm.... Yes, the more I think about it, Paige is your favorite of the sisters, but Leo is your favorite character.
ST:TNG: No one's guessed Geordi yet... but this could be another attractive man favorite, and be Riker.
Harry Potter: I keep trying to guess, and I keep thinking of new reasons why someone might be your favorite. First, I thought Trelawny because you'd be awesome playing her. Then, I thought Hermione, with the smart young woman identification. Then, I thought Dumbledore, because I think you might have told me of your affection for him. Then, I thought, it might just be Snape, because you're you and you can't always be pinned down.

*grins* Piper's actually my favorite of the sisters, followed closely by Phoebe, but yes, Leo is my favorite character.

Riker would definitely be my favorite guy on ST:TNG, but not my favorite overall character.

And yes, I have to admit to a soft spot for my dear Severus. :) And yes, you know how difficult I can be to pin down. ;)
